I would visit the dentist and have him evaluate the lesion on the tongue. It could have been due to various reasons and only the person who treated can give you a good reason for why it happened. It could be a traumatic ulcer which could take 10 to 14 days to heal. I would wait for 2 weeks and see if it heals or not. If it does not heal after 2 weeks then I would revisit the dentist for another evaluation. About the further dental treatment if I feel comfortable in getting the work done I would just go ahead and get the necessary treatment done if not I will wait until the lesion heals. In case of traumatic ulcers or Apthous ulcers the best things to do are
1) you can use anesthetic gels to anesthetize the area and minimize the discomfort
2) Hydrate pretty good. Drink lots of water, you can also use chewing gum
