4 Reasons Why Ask DoctorBase is the Most Efficient Way to SEO and Establish Your Brand Online

  1. Ask DoctorBase is a free service for patients on the DoctorBase platform - currently servicing over 6 million American patients of record.
  2. All answers submitted by healthcare professionals (you) are for entertainment purposes only and do not constitute doctor-patient relationships. All patients must agree to this before using Ask DoctorBase.
  3. Our software and our Marketing Engineering staff review each answer and optimize your answers for keywords valuable to your specialty. It is a well kept secret that doctors (you) - not SEO consultants - are the ones who have the most valuable content prized by search engines. Ask DoctorBase "unlocks and optimizes" your content in the most efficient manner possible with today's technology.
  4. Finally, the doctor who provides the most popular answer - "the Featured Answer," gets an added benefit by allowing patients to write rave reviews about your expertise - reviews that are submitted to both Google and Google Local through our Preferred Data Provider relationship.

Post-op pain

I had a laparoscopic left inguinal hernia repair with mesh exactly three weeks ago. I am having a lot of pressure in my left pelvic area and I have this dull nagging throbbing pain in my left flank. I am even having problems bearing down to have a bowel movement due to the pressure I am feeling. Is this normal?

This is not a typical complaint 3 weeks after surgery for an inguinal hernia, but that does not mean it is abnormal. If one of my patients complained of this, I would ask them to come into the office to be checked. I would recommend a follow up visit with your surgeon.

As always, there will be no netter way to solve any patient problem than going to your doctor, the onw who made your surgery is the best option to go see if everything is ok. In my practice it is definitely not expected to have the symptoms you are having 3 weeks after surgery, my best recommendation is to go to your surgeon as soon as possible to make sure everything is fine. By your symptom description I would think of something like a hematoma or adhesion (could be from gut to the mesh, which is risky) on the pelvic area. Good luck and hope you recover soon!

No it is not normal. You need to see your surgeon ASAP so he can examine you and order some tests

Thanks for the question. "Normal" is always hard to relate to in such situations. Without know all the details it will be difficult to decide if you are in a standard post operative glide slope of getting better. My entire practice is specializing in hernia repair and I frequently participate in all the major hernia conferences. As an expert in the field I would say that some of your symptoms are not unheard of and often resolve. A few things to help us out would be....

1. What kind of lap repair? TAPP/TEPP

2. What kind of mesh?

3. Did they use a tacker when they put the mesh in?

4. Did you have a small or large hernia?

5. Did you have a lot of pre-op pain?

6. Did you have any imaging studies that you can relate to us from pre-op?

I would advise that you check with your surgeon. He may order some tests like blood work and scans to determine the nature of your symptoms.

go back to your surgeon. Most MD's include post op visits in their surgical fee. HE or she will know best what complications would arise from what they did to you. Also, you may need to prepare yourself to see another surgeon for a second opinion should you get worse or not recover as fast as expected.
