Congratulations on the pregnancy! I am glad to hear that the baby is growing well. I know the anemia is concerning, but it is very common in pregnancy and fortunately it does not seem to be causing any problems. Keep following the advice of your doctor.

Best of luck!

Anemia is very common in pregnancy. She is doing all she can to correct it. Just make sure she continues to take her iron. Suggest your Dr. to change the kind of iron she is taking. Some are better than others.

She started out quite low and Hg drops during pregnancy anyway because of a dilutional effect in which there is more fluid in the blood relative to the amount of Hg. Her Ob is doing a good job of bringing her Hg up and keeping her number where it needs to be. Since she was that anemic at the onset of pregnancy she will likely need some additional workup after delivery to see what might be causing it. Heavy periods are a common cause in women but there are many others. Talk to her doctor about this.

I don't think you need to be upset. Your wife's bone marrow is getting all the help it needs and doing the best it could, considering that she started out with a low hemoglobin level of 6.7. Even where the hb is normal at the onset of pregnancy, fetal demand tends to pull it downward. Check with your doctor to see that she is getting enough folic acid and dietary protein. If her appetite is low, she may need a little boost. Where she remains anemic after delivery, she might need hematology consult to figure out the cause of her chronic anemia. Hopefully you guys don't have lead piping in your home to suggest lead poisoning, which is notorious for chronic resistant anemia.

No need to be upset. The blood gets physiologically thinner and diluted to protect against blood loss at delivery. Keep taking iron up to 3 times a day. Try to avoid induction and a c section. All should be ok
