Sorry you are not feeling well. You are An 18 year old woman with sharp peri umbilical ( belly button) pain. Here is what I would ask you: What causes the pain, what makes it worse or better? Is the pain constant or intermittent? Are you going to the bathroom regularly? Do you have fever? Does it hurt when someone presses on your belly?

Common things occur commonly. With a one day history I think about gastroenteritis, a limited infection. Constipation, difficulty going to the bathroom can add to the pain. An ulcer is less likely given duration and age. If your pain is severe, have your doctor examine your abdomen to check for more serious problems like appendicitis
Historically, many people have found relief with BP-C and Magnesium Complex from www.naturessunshine.ca or .com

They are inexpensive and usually fast acting.

Please visit your doctor as soon as possible. Let your physician know some of the things you might have been doing before and after this pain such as physical activities or food ingested or any other symptoms you might have been experiencing prior to this sharp pain.

An evaluation by your primary care physician is indicated. Some less common but severe issues such as referred pain from appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, incarcerated umbilical hernia, and perforated ulcer need to be ruled out. These differential diagnoses need to be ruled out by a proper history, physical exam, and diagnostics as needed. After this is accomplished, more benign causes such as viral gastroenteritis can be considered and treated with confidence.
Causes include reflux, ulcer disease, pancreatitis and or gallbladder problem. If you have diarrhea and or constipation, you may have irritable bowel. Make sure you are not pregnant. If you have fever, it could be appendicitis but this would typically radiate to your right lower side You are young and depending on how long you have had the pain, I would start with some over the counter antacids. If not better, then would see your doctor and possibly have abdominal ultrasound performed. Hope this is helpful
So many things can give you sharp pain in your belly button area--they range from problems directly in this area, to referred pain from another area of your abdomen that is manifesting in this area.

First and foremost, make sure you are not pregnant--this can cause discomfort and sharp pain for lots of reasons--stretching of the uterine ligaments in this area to problems in the ovary/tube area if the pregnancy has settled there.

If your are not pregnant, then issues can arise in the belly from anything to your stomach to your intestines, gall bladder, liver, etc. A good physical exam by your PCP and a couple of labs tests or X-rays can yield a lot of info where indicated, barring no pregnancy. Remember, any recent stressors from ANYTHING can cause a lot of belly discomfort as well, so reflect back over the previous few weeks from when the pain started and correlate any issues that may possible be causing the discomfort. This too can be treated. Good luck and feel better soon!
There are many possibilities for this, a couple come to mind which may need to be addressed urgently. Pregnancy, or a complication of pregnancy (i.e. ectopic) is one. Appendicitis, frequently begins in the belly button area and then moves to the right lower abdomen commonly as the process gets worse, is the other.

Other less concerning issues would be a GI related illness, less urgent gynecological causes, or possibly urinary tract infection. I would recommend being seen asap by your PCP if pain is severe and like nothing you have experienced before. If your PCP can not see you quickly, you may want to be taken to the emergency room for an evaluation.
