activity after breast augmentation

Activity after breast augmentation can be variable and surgeon and procedure specific. Discussing recovery after breast augmentation should be a part of preoperative plastic surgery education. Parameters to follow include: no cardio for 2 weeks and no heavy lifting for 4 weeks, though this depends on breast augmentation technique and breast implant choice. Lifting the arms after breast augmentation is acceptable.
I allow post-surgical breast augmentation to begin lower body exercise within a week or two following surgery. This recommendation is generally tailored for each individual patient. It may require 4-6 weeks following surgery for return to vigorous upper body exercise. This is particularly true with subpectoral implants. In this type of surgery, the implant is placed beneath the muscle. At age 18, patients rebound from surgery quickly. At age 58, you may be very healthy and active, but recovery may take a bit longer.

Recuperation and healing
You can usually drive after all pain and muscle relaxation medications have stopped, and you feel comfortable with this activity, usually within the first week following surgery. Many patients can return to work in a few days, unless their occupation requires particularly strenuous movements and lifting. In such a case, up to 6 weeks may be required depending on the physical demands of your job. The final appearance, shape, and movement are not exactly the same as normal breasts. The surgically enlarged breasts do not move in the same way as normal breasts. They tend to be firmer. The contours are usually somewhat different than normal breasts. In some patients these discrepancies may be rather noticeable. Although every effort is made to place the implants symmetrically, complete symmetry is rarely achieved. Immediately after surgery, the breasts are swollen and firmer. The final shape and size is approximated after 2 to 3 months, but up to one year may be required for the end result. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures dissolve in 7 to 14 days. Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Light exercise can be started in about 2-3 weeks, and strenuous exercise after 6 weeks. Your doctor may require you to move or massage the implants within the breast pockets during the postoperative period. Textured implants do not require breast massage.

As you can see from the varied responses, there really is no correct answer to this question because we base our answers on anecdotal observations and being "conservative".
So the answer will always be speak to your own doctor to make sure they clarify which option they think is best for you.
Different style implants such as anatomic shaped should demand a little more time theoretically to make sure they are healed to the point of not flipping.
As far as smooth round implants go which is what i use i tell patients they should listen to their bodies and gradually resume activities starting around a week out from surgery. if they feel any discomfort they are overdoing it. it is never a good idea after surgery especially sub muscular to go from 0 to 60 so the gradual increase in activity should be observed.
patients should be able to wash their hair right after surgery but hold off on exagerated strecthing for a week or so.
This is my anecdotal experience.
also i tell patients to make sure to wear a silicone based scar cream or strip on their scar to make sure it heals properly. i think this helps out.

Best answer is, ask your surgeon. In general I tell patients to wait two weeks until resuming strenuous activity. If the implants are under the muscle or if they are anatomic implants it will be longer.
This really depends on what your plastic surgeon recommended based on some standards and your desired level of activity. I tend to be very conservative with my post-operative restrictions after breast augmentation. My patients cannot raise their arms overhead for 3 weeks. Lifting over 10 pounds is avoided for 3 weeks. After this, overhead movement is gradual and deliberate. I allow exercise to resume at 6 weeks after surgery. I advise against any exercise that makes the breasts bounce until 12 weeks after surgery. A compressive sports bra should be worn at all times during exercise.
I tell my patients that they can start cardiovascular exercise one month after surgery and weight training 6 weeks after surgery. First my patients have to be evaluated at one month post surgery to make sure that everything is healing correctly before I give them the final authorization. Every doctor has their own professional opinions. It is important that you have the recommended post surgery checkups and ask your doctor.
Vigorous exercise that would lead to the breast bouncing or being "jarred" in any weight cannot be resumed for 4 weeks. Light activities like walking and range of motion with the arms is encouraged. Heavy light should not be resumed for 4 weeks but lifting lite objects (such as a purse or bottle of milk) that require very little effort can be resumed when comfortable
