Scar Removal

When I was 7 I fell off a skateboard hitting the concrete face first. My two front teeth got stuck inside my lower lip and i just pulled my lip down and the teeth got unstuck. My teeth did not fall out and I also never got stitches or saw a doctor. Now i have two ugly scars and they look like herpes bumps and it makes me insecure. What would be the best way to remove the scar and what would be the average cost. I really want the surgery done this year. I have included a picture.

Raised and firm scars, especially from an unrepaired laceration of the lip can be excised with the layers closed separately to help flatten and smooth the scar. Scar revision surgery should be applied to scars that restrict movement or that are depressed and wide.
It is difficult to fully assess the scar from the photograph alone but it looks as though it could be improved with a relatively simple procedure in the office using local anesthetic. The lips are usually very forgiving when it comes to hiding scars and I think you have a good chance of making it look better. In our office the cost would probably be around $400-$800 depending on whether one or both scars needed to be revised.
The areas of concern can be excised. The surgical approach/options would be discussed with your physician. There is also a small chance of hypertrophy if there is a procedure performed. In general, the procedure should be straight forward and would probably be done with local anesthesia. The cost can be variable from practice to practice.

Your scars are, thankfully, not severe. They could be excised and revised under local anesthesia.

This means you would not need to be asleep unless desired. Local anesthesia minimized expense and can facilitate the safe and comfortable removal or your scars.

This generally requires meticulous sharp excision and repair with very fine nylon or prolene sutures. The sutures are generally removed in 5-10 days.

And silicone scar therapy helps to minimize long term scarring. Good luck with your surgery. It should cost between 300 and 1500 dollars. Surgery depends, in part, upon surgeon location and experience.
It is hard to tell from the photo, but in general there are many options to improve the appearance of an unsightly scar. Depending on your sin type, dermabrasion may be an option. Dermabrasion is analogous to sanding down the bumps on your skin. Another option is surgical scar revision where the scar is cut out and the skin is re-closed with the intention to leave the faintest scar possible. Aftercare can help further reduce the appearance of the scar. Micro-needling is another more recent option that can also improve the appearance of scars. Having said all this, it is very important to understand that nothing can make a scar totally disappear, so there will always be some evidence of scar. The effort is to reducing its appearance as much as possible. In general these procedures are done under local anesthesia and depending on your area can cost $450 and up.
Scars like this can be addressed in many ways. I would first consider steroid injections and perhaps a small excision or punch biopsy to remove the core of the scar. Surgical excision may not be necessary, depending on the depth and shape of the scar underneath the surface. Your surgeon can best guide you after a hands-on examination of the area. Costs will vary greatly depending on the approach.

Thanks for the photograph.

-Since these scars happened when you were 7, they are mature and would need to be excised.

-The bumps can be removed with surgery while you are numb but still awake, but

-there would need to be a consult and physical exam to determine if the risks are worth the benefits.

Best Wishes
The best treatment would be determined after physical exam. If the tissue is thickened the injections would work to break down the scar tissue. If the tissue is soft but just puffy - laser or ThermiRF would be a better option to tighten and smooth the puffy appearance. Cutting will generally leave another type of scar and may not be the best first choice. Price probably less than $1000 for any option. It's a small scar, but could be revised under local anesthesia in the office. There will alwats be a scar, but it should be smaller, if not recurrent hypertrpic scarring occurs, or if there is not keloiding. The office number is 224-567-8841 if you would like to make an appointment.
