There are two nasal valves in the nose, one external and one internal. The external valve is composed of the nostril which is skin and cartilage. The internal valve is composed of cartilage and is the middle part of the nose. In a rhinoplasty or nose job, the external valve can be supported with alar rim grafts or lateral crural strut grafts. The internal valves can be expanded in a rhinoplasty or nose job with auto-spreader grafts of internal spreader grafts. These maneuvers in rhinoplasty or plastic surgery of the nose should help. Septoplasty and turbinate reduction can all help with the nasal airway.

A successful outcome depends on:

1. Correct diagnosis.

2. Appropriately planned surgery.

3. Surgery performed by an experienced surgeon

4. Absence of complications.

5. A complete compliance by the patient to the surgeons before surgery preparations instructions and after surgery care instructions.

There cannot be a 100% guarantee of success as there many more factors play a part in achieving the desired outcome.

As another colleague has indicated questions of this type are not satisfactorily addressable in this write in format. You must request an in person consultation with a 'Rhinoplasty Surgeon' and not a surgeon who performs occasional nasal operations. It appears you have many questions and some doubts. This is all normal. It is important to seek the information in the correct format. Any advice you receive in this 'write-in type' format is very unlikely to fit your condition completely. You deserve better care. Please go about it the traditional way. See the right doctor! The national societies can provide you with information about surgeons convenient to your geographical location.

Good luck comes to those who go about seeking solutions in the smart way.

There is an internal and external valve; treatment for

1)external valve collapse can be corrected with a contour rim graft

2)internal valve collapse can be corrected with spreader grafts and/or alar battan grafts

Hopefully your prospective doctor will take some time, examine your nose carefully, examine the internal aspect of your nose. Most of the problems with breathing are very easily visible and can be explained to the patient. Then when surgery is done, there is a high likelihood you will get improved breathing.

Like most other things in plastic surgery, expectations are important. Expect an improvement, but not perfection.

If you are familiar with the term "nasal valve", you must've already discussed this with your surgeon. If your

concern regards the functional result of an improved nasa airway, there are many factors which could add to

your problem and still leave you with nasal obstruction. If you concern is cosmetic, there are many options depending on your appearance. Its best to consult a rhinoplasty surgeon for another opinion if you are unsure.
One of the most important factors in achieving a good surgical outcome is to select the appropriate candidates.

This means, that if you do have stenosis of the external or internal nasal valve, surgery can and should correct the issue. However, surgery involves one human working on another human. Thus, errors, miscalculation, and/or other issues can occur. Additionally, even when surgery is performed perfectly, healing issues can vary the outcome. I would suggest keeping close follow up with your physician. Most physicians are committed to achieving good long-term outcomes with their patients. Occasionally a revision is necessary, but this should only be embarked upon if other measures fail.. Revision is usually not performed in nasal surgery for at least 6-12 months following the initial procedure.
It is very important to have this problem corrected the first time. Revision surgery can correct any problems from the first surgery and it is very important to have this problem corrected the first time. Revision surgery can correct any problems from the first surgery however revision surgery is more difficult than primary surgery. It is very important you seek a board-certified plastic surgeon. And preferably a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial plastic surgery and more specifically nose surgery or rhinoplasty. Best wishes.
It is important to discuss the risks and complications of the surgery with your doctor. You need to understand the process. You need to also follow the doctor`s instructions in order to have the best recovery and results. You also need to discuss your options if the surgery does not fix the problem. Communication is the key. Good luck!

My first response would be that you see the surgeon that performed your surgery. Also, specially with the nose, there can be prolonged swelling which could take several months to resolve.

That being said, a successful surgery on correctimg a narrowed nasal valve involves evaluation and treatment of the septum, bones in the nose called inferior turbinates, and widening of the midvault or middle third of the nose, usually with a cartilage graft. Incomplete evaluation or not or under correcting deformities in this area can result in persistent nasal obstruction of the internal valve.

I wish you best of luck.

You have asked multiple questions about nasal valve surgery on this forum getting multiple opinions from multiple experts. Sometimes getting different opinions from experts who do not know all of the facts can complicate the issue. Sometimes, experts answer without a proper examination and render an opinion. Just because it is on the internet doesn't mean that it is factually correct. There is no substitute for a proper examination and consultation. One can not seek an opinion on "Dr. Google" about an outcome, nor can you go to medical school on Google. After a multitude of questions over the past several weeks, I would suggest contacting your surgeon directly and asking him.her all of your questions. You are doing yourself a disservice asking others to opine. Best of luck.
