4 Reasons Why Ask DoctorBase is the Most Efficient Way to SEO and Establish Your Brand Online

  1. Ask DoctorBase is a free service for patients on the DoctorBase platform - currently servicing over 6 million American patients of record.
  2. All answers submitted by healthcare professionals (you) are for entertainment purposes only and do not constitute doctor-patient relationships. All patients must agree to this before using Ask DoctorBase.
  3. Our software and our Marketing Engineering staff review each answer and optimize your answers for keywords valuable to your specialty. It is a well kept secret that doctors (you) - not SEO consultants - are the ones who have the most valuable content prized by search engines. Ask DoctorBase "unlocks and optimizes" your content in the most efficient manner possible with today's technology.
  4. Finally, the doctor who provides the most popular answer - "the Featured Answer," gets an added benefit by allowing patients to write rave reviews about your expertise - reviews that are submitted to both Google and Google Local through our Preferred Data Provider relationship.

Red swollen shin

I hit the front of my shin few weeks back with a metal chair, I swear I saw stars I hurt so bad. I still can't touch it and I whacked same spot again. It hurt to the touch red spot but my friend keeps saying its hot too the touch. So now I'm thinking something may be wrong.

You definitely ruptured some small veins with the impact which would cause swelling and acute pain, there may be some injury to the bone with some bleeding under the lining of the shin bone called periosteal lifting. When you injure the veins they can become inflamed which is a superficial phlebitis which would cause heat and pain. You need to ice your leg , wrap it to protect it and take the ibuprofen regularly or aspirin, . It is not uncommon to injure part of the body that we have already hurt in the past so that is why it is good to wrap the leg with an ace wrap to cushion the affected area. See your family doctor to be reassured that there is no infection occurring due to any break in the skin that may have occurred.

With a blunt injury to your sheen, you initially had a bruise. But the subsequent re-injury moved it up to bone crack if not fracture. If it feels warm that suggests acute sterile inflammation of muscle or bone tissue. But you need to see a doctor to be sure there is no infection. Osteomyelitis or bone infection can be difficult to treat and it's spread through the blood is also very easy.
It is very swollen and edematous.

Please make sure to get an xray if you have lots of pain and difficulty with moving arm.

If there is no fracture then it must be hematoma underneath.

This could be a skin infection called cellulitis

You should see a medical provider as soon as possible to start on antibiotics.

You could have a hematoma (collection of blood under the skin-like a deep bruise) or a thrombophlebitis (superficial swelling of the veins with some clotting). Both can be painful and warm to the touch. The second traumatic event probably just irritated an already injured area, adding "fuel to the fire."

Don't be worried about any possible clotting below the knee in the superficial venous system. THese are not the clots that people worry about traveling to the heart or brain.

But if your calf is swollen, tender or painful, then an ultrasound is warranted.

Keep it elevated, warm compresses to area and take some aspirin (only if you are able without contraindications) and if not better, see your PCP.
