Dental implants: where do I start?

I have really bad teeth and it has been that way for the better part of my adult life. It has limited many things that I want to do in life. I have no confidence in meeting new people and needless to say my dating and professional lives have taken the biggest hit. I have finally gotten to a point where I have some money saved up and there is nothing more I want in life than to be able to walk around with the confidence of a great smile.

I have started looking into dental implants and I just don't know where to start. I see these super shops like clear choice dental that make it seem so easy. Their prices seem really high but I have nothing to compare it to. I will probably need a full upper and partial lower.

My question is how can I find the best dentist for the best price to help me change my life. I am near Cleveland OH and would hope to find something in the area.

Best is to ask your friends and family about their experiences with their dentists. then ask all your questions and discuss your concerns with the dentist you choose. find out how much experience the office has had with these type of full mouth restorations.

You are correct, it is very easy to become overwhelmed with the volume of information available regarding dental implants. Consider obtaining several opinions from restorative dentists, prosthodontists and periodontists and oral surgeons. For an accurate diagnosis a combination of a complete clinical exam, clinical photographs along with 2-d and 3-d imaging. Asks for copies/duplications of your radiographs so these do not have to be repeated. Ask lots and lots of questions. A good clinician will be happy to answer your questions. Best of luck.

Dental implants is a very personal procedure and so it is better to work within a team or a system where a relationship based on trust, security, convenience and comfortability since the implant has to be observed, maintained over time. And so, the "best implant dentist" can be found through friends', colleagues' referrals, the local dental society. In addition, dental implant organizations such as the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the ICOI have a online site where dentists have been credentialized through a system of oral and written tests are listed. As for prices, the " best office" may be able to slowly spread the treatment over time to ease the financial arrangements and the option of patient financing through organizations such as Care Credit.

There are so many choices. It is also nice to hear testimonials from patients who have had the process done. Check online for local reviews, talk to friends or neighbors. It is best to have a specialist place your implants and many have guarantees for the implants once placed. This helps in knowing they will stand by their work. Some family dentists have specialists that come in and place their implants for them. This can be helpful to the patient in being able to go to one place for care. I would not start this type of treatment at any dental chain. The doctors switch in and out and can make a complex case that takes several months to complete very challenging for the patient. Good Luck! Congrats on working towards your new smile!

I think you are wise in your concerns. You have a lot of research to do to find what fits your needs. Beware of high pressure sales. Call around to Ohio Dental Association, Cleveland Dental Association, local Oral Surgeons, Implantologists, Labs, and General Practitioners Dentists. Study the types of overdentures and screw in type prosthesis and chose one that fits your needs.

Overall - the more implants you get the more it costs. In a perfect world you could get one per tooth (14 per arch). I have never known anyone with that scenario. However the standard seems to be 4 implants per side per arch. So if your lower partial situation is secure with no implants, then you could do 8 on top (with or without grafting) and perfectly secure an overdenture that should not move and be very lifelike. You could get away with 2-4 implants total for that same overdenture. Always more is better.

Remember where ever you place an implant, the bone level stays high and rarely recedes like areas without a tooth or implant.

Best of luck, Brian

I would suggest getting multiple opinions from different offices along with educating yourself on your computer about implants....search for overdenture, screw retained hybrid, all on 4, etc to familiarize yourself with possible treatment choices. Until someone can look at you with the possible aid of a Ct scan it's hard to give you much more advice. There should be plenty of implantologist ( general, periodontic, prosthodontic. os, ) in that area that are well qualified to help you accomplish your Smile goals!!!!!
Implant Dentistry is a great service! The main downside with your search is the multitiude of options that are present within implant dentistry to satisfy your particular treatment. I recommend you have a consult with a few General Dentists first to get an idea of the type of implant restoration you want. You can have a Removable option with a denture that is supported by the implants, but you can still take it out. This may be the least expensive option. There is also a Fixed option where the denture or crowns are cemented/screwed into the implants and you are not able to remove it (only your dentist will be able to). This option can run a lot more expensive than a removable option. The 2 main factors you need to figure out are 1) do you want something that is Fixed or Removable, and 2) what is your budget. Depending on your budget, you will have a few treatment options to choose from with implant dentistry.
Start with a highly skilled and experienced general dentist or prosthodontist and go from there with the recommended specialist(s) as needed. Get several opinions and weigh all options. Keep in mind that meticulous follow up care is absolutely mandatory to protect your investment and assure that it serves you well.
After practicing 34 years in Cosmetic and full mouth reconstruction Dentistry, my best advise to you is to salvage as many natural teeth you can. Implant dentistry is not the only solution, although it can be a great help where it is indicated. Nothing is better to have your own teeth. Having said that if you do want to find a top 10 dentist in your area, start making consultation visits first, and pay attention to the level of care and amount of detail they pay attention to.Sometimes trying to save on dentistry procedures, is paying triple or quadruple in the long run with lots of headache, and loss of time. If you do find an expert dentist of your choice, ask them how many times they have done cases similar to yours?having said above, please also read the links below, it might help you quite a lot to find the top10 dentists not only in the USA but around the world:

Finding a well qualified implant dentist can sometimes feel like an overwhelming task. I would be gin by doing some online research....reading dentist profiles, onlines review and ask friends for a recommendation. Once you have a small list of dentists, call and make several consultations. Most dentists offer a no charge consultation especially for a case as large as yours. This will allow you to ask questions of each dentist and also see if you feel comfortable in their office with the dentist and staff.
