Chest pain? Possible broken rib?
Featured Answer
Naw, I doubt it. More likely costochondritis. This type of muscular pain is very common. You are not alone. Fortunately most cases resolve on its own. However, it is concerning that your symptoms have lasted this long. I would discuss with your doctor. She or he may want to try you on some anti-inflammatory medications. In the meantime, try avoiding any strenuous activity.
Best of luck!

Yes, could have been broken and now you have some inflammation set up in area. Condritis may be inflammation in cartilage tissue between ribs. Rib should have healed by now, so treatment is to control symptoms, might even try heat over area. if not better seek out your PCP.
It sounds more like a hairline rib fracture, which could occur during contact sports, forceful coughing or vigorous erobic workout. Even though hairline fractures may be hard to sport on X-rays, a chest X-ray might help to rule out rib fracture. You may want to see cardio thoracic doctor. I wish the best possible outcome.
It is possible that you have a stress fracture of the rib. These are subtle fractures that occasionally occur with paroxysms of coughing such as with a respiratory infection or working out. Pleural inflammation is the most common cause of the type of pain you are having, and it responds to anti-inflammatory medicines. More serious conditions, such as blood clots in the lungs or pericarditis, an inflammation around the sac that contains the heart, can also present in this way. You need to see your primary care doctor for an exam and additional workup.
Hi,
If it were a broken rib, it would be so incredibly painful that it wouldn't be so intermittent. It is possible that the rib is severely bruised or likely subluxated.
A subluxated rib can be extremely painful and associated with movement. I would certainly see a local Chiropractor in your area that has experience adjusting extremities, and in particular ribs.
She/He will most likely use an extremely gentle instrument to lightly but quickly tap rib back into place. fantastic results will be seen within 1-4 visits, most likely.
