My boyfriend and I have protected sex (condom) and he also uses the withdrawal before climaxing method. My expected period date is Dec. 9 but I have very light spotting (only when I wipe) since Dec. 4. I took a pregnancy test on Dec. 6 and it was negative, so my question is: what is the spotting?

Spotting before period
Spotting before a period is common and can have many causes, only one of which is pregnancy. Could also be a hormonal imbalance, thyroid, birthcontrol pills, IUDs, or infections. I would recommend discussing with your doctor. While you are there, you might discuss finding a more dependable birth control method. Condoms, when used correctly, is a good method. Withdrawal is not!
