How long are you supposed to wait after taking the Medroxyprogesterone, to have unprotected sex?

I've had irregular periods all my life. but My partner and I decided that i needed something to have my period, and finially after going to my OBGYN, she proscribed me this. I do indeed want to have a child, but I'm seeing if my period will come normally first. Is it better off for me to have protected sex? or if I'm trying should I try unprotected sex during or after the pill? I'm not exactly sure.
