Itchy gum

I had itchy gum on number 16. Six months ago, my dentist said there was an inflammation showed up on the X-ray. They decided to re-do the root canal, and found crack, and had to pull it out. My dentist said taking the tooth out would get rid of the itchiness, and suggested an implant. I got an implant, but the itchiness never went away. The gum itches like crazy that I poke with a tooth-pick all the time. My gum on the front jaws are itchy too. My dentist is not sure what is wrong! Please help!!

May be an allergic reaction to a particular food, medication, or something environmental. As it's a gum problem, I would recommend consultation with a gum specialist, a Periodontist. If specialist says you are periodontally healthy, next I would see an Allergist or a Neurologist.

I am going to suggest that the itchiness may not be a dental issue. It is possible that it is a sinus issue. I would contact my physician to determine if there is a medical issue that is causing the itchiness.

Keep medical doctors for MEDICAL problems. Neuro, derm, have zero competence or experience for such an obscure complaint. Allergies, meds, unlikely. Gum doctors. Don't think so. Find a dentist with whom you feel confident and go from there.

The first and foremost thing you need to do is to stop the mouth wash you are using . May be the Alcohol

in mouth wash is causing the problem and use a none -alcoholic herbal mouth wash.

You also need to check the tooth paste , you are using and if chancing to another tooth paste resolves the condition .

If the problem does not disappear with changing the mouthwash and tooth paste , you must consider seeing

a periodontist and take from there . In the meantime do not take too spicy food which might worsen the condition .

An itch would usually indicate an allergy to something you are using. The first thing I would think is that your toothpaste has something in it that you're allergic too. Switch to a regular toothpaste with no added ingredients for whitening, tartar control, etc., to see if that helps.

Not sure which numbering system you are using most likely it's the international system, so that would be upper right 1st molar? The itchiness could be a tooth paste sensitivity, hormonal issue, drug issue or neurological issue. You're next step would be to see a periodontist or an oral medicine dentist.

Itching gums usually has to do with an allergic reaction to possibly food, or some sort of medication you might be taking or even the tooth paste, or mouth rinse. Your best bet is to see a periodontist, gum specialist dentist and better yet to a pathologist. If none available in your area see an oral surgeon specialist dentist.

Ps

Usually we do not do a root canal on tooth #16, which is the left upper wisdom tooth, nor really do dental implants on tooth #16, unless in special circumstances, in which we need the tooth as an anchor for missing teeth! maybe you meant your canine tooth !

Since you are having issues with your gums you might want to see a periodontist. They specialize in this area.

Thank you so much for all the response. My dentist ruled out gum disease. I went back to the oral surgeon who did my implant on #13, and he said the implant looks good and my gum looks healthy. My general physician prescribed me B12 to see if that helps, but my B12 is within normal range and it didn't help. I still have itchiness at the front gums of my mouth, and on the implant site. One spot is very sore on the implant after 1.5 yrs. The oral surgeon recommended that I see a neurologist.

I am sorry. I meant Number 13 (not 16). I still have the itchiness and after 1.5 years, the implant site is still sore. My gums at the front of my mouth still itches. I went to see several dentists, and they asked me to see a neurologist.
