coughing up phlegm & pain in chest

For the past 2 month I have been coughing with phlegm. I went to the doctor 2 months ago and he said I breathed in an allergen and gave me antibiotics which helped. Today I still have a cough with phlegm but I woke up with a pain in my chest when I lay flat on my back. When I turn on my side it feels better but it is still there. Are the 2 connected?

Probably, but likely not in the way you were thinking. The coughing has inflamed one of the many muscles in your chest. In some positions the muscle is relaxed, in others it is stretched and painful. It will get better, but may take some time.
