Hi Doctor,

This is the my first time used the patch, per direction, "The patch is intended to be worn for 7 days". But the patch came out just 3 days, I put a new patch in different dry/hair free area immediately. Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello. There are 7 day Estrogen patches and twice weekly patches. I think you should have it clarified which one you are using . Also some of the generic patches don't stick quite as well as the non-generics, so try it for a month or so but if they continue to fall off you ask to have the prescription changed .

Patches are somewhat notorious for falling off or giving skin irritation. If your Insurance covers it, avoid the generics as they seem to use worse adhesives. The new patch may stay on 7 days. When they work, patches are very convenient. If it keeps happening, you might want to consider a transdermal cream or pellet.
There are two main reasons why patients stop using patches 1) they frequently fall off, and 2) some patients get skin irritation. I frequently tell my patch patients to towel dry and then blow dry the area where they are planning to place the patch so the skin is as dry as possible prior to applying it. The pharmaceutical reps for the non-generic patches (name brand) swear that their patches stay on a lot better than the generic patches but I do not know of any studies that have really looked at that issue. The brand name patches are definitely more expensive. Also there are other options for estrogen therapy such as pills, creams, and sprays. Good luck.
No problems with applying the new patch as you described. If the patch continues to have adhesive issues (falling off, skin irritation, etc.) then perhaps a different patch or delivery system (i.e., topical cream, foam, spray, gel) may be a better option for you.
