Pregnancy

Hello I'm Randall I'm 18 and I have a question regarding condoms, spermicide, and reliability. 2-3 weeks ago my fiancé and I had sex we used a condom (Trojan ultra thin armored spermicidal lubricant condom) and now my fiancé believes she's pregnant, shes also missed her period. I'm nervous and also curious as to if there's a chance the condom broke. Though I don't remember there being any tears or breaks when I disposed of the condom.

Birth Control methods are rated by somrthing called the Pearl Index which estimates the number of pregnancies per 100 women using a particular method for one year. The chance of pregnancy with condoms plus spermicide is about 5-10 %. This is lower than hormonal contraceptive methods such as birth control pills. One major advantage of condoms is that they do prevent the spread of sexually transmitted disease. Until your fiancé has a blood pregnancy test proving that she is pregnant, you can't be sure.

First get the blood test to find out if she is pregnant. Condoms are not perfect but if you didnt notice any breaks ...Sorry to say this but if the pregnancy test is positive maybe a paternity test would be in order down the road.
There is a chance, no condom is 100%. If she believes she is pregnant she should get a blood test (better than the urine tests) and you can know definitively.
Error in my reply, the chance of pregnancy with condoms is HIGHER than other methods!

The best way to find out is to do a urine pregnancy test (which are cheap and very accurate after a woman has missed her period). This is also a good time to consider using two forms of birth control, I am an OB/Gyn and I always tell my sexually active patients who do not want to become pregnant to use a form of birth control AND condoms. Good luck.
I agree with the prior post; please do a commercial pregnancy test. The most common reason for a missed period is pregnancy. Also know that there are a number of other reasons other than pregnancy for missing a period or delaying a period, including psychological stress. If the pregnancy test is negative, your partner may want to just give it more time and see if her period comes. If it's more than a month late, she can go visit her doctor.

There is no 100% reliable contraception method. In this case pregnancy is a possibility although unlikely. Commercial pregnancy test is a good start.
