I've been on lutera for about 5 months now & I have a very difficult time swallowing pills. I'll attempt to take the pill with water and I just cant seem to swallow it. By the time I do swallow it, the pill is much smaller so I believe most of it has dissolved in my mouth. Will the pill still be effective if it's dissolved?

Will my birth control still work if it dissolves in my mouth?

The hormones will still be absorbed into your body but the metabolism may not be normal , which could possibly effect the reliability of the pill. There are several chewable birth control pills available, as well as contraceptive alternatives other than oral contraceptive pills. Talk to your provider.

I would not risk what you are doing, because the pill you are on has not been studied that way. There are chewable birth control pills on the market and other forms of contraception such as IUDs, implantable rods and good old fashion Depo Provera which is injected every three months that you could use. Good luck.
