  1. Ask DoctorBase is a free service for patients on the DoctorBase platform - currently servicing over 6 million American patients of record.
  2. All answers submitted by healthcare professionals (you) are for entertainment purposes only and do not constitute doctor-patient relationships. All patients must agree to this before using Ask DoctorBase.
  3. Our software and our Marketing Engineering staff review each answer and optimize your answers for keywords valuable to your specialty. It is a well kept secret that doctors (you) - not SEO consultants - are the ones who have the most valuable content prized by search engines. Ask DoctorBase "unlocks and optimizes" your content in the most efficient manner possible with today's technology.
  4. Finally, the doctor who provides the most popular answer - "the Featured Answer," gets an added benefit by allowing patients to write rave reviews about your expertise - reviews that are submitted to both Google and Google Local through our Preferred Data Provider relationship.

I have a lower canine crooked tooth.

Is braces the only way to align it?

Short answer is no. There are several ways to correct crooked teeth. Braces/Invisalign is one, there is also cosmetic bonding if the tooth isn't too far out of place. There is crown/veneer which can also work. The best is to check with your dentist and see what suggestions he/she will have for this situation

You can have instant orthodontics done by an expert dentist, preferably a cosmetic dentist, to ask if you can have a composite veneer, or possibly a porcelain dental veneer done on your tooth!

You can also ask if that restoration will help you with your bite, or occlusion.

Ask an expert dentist to see if he can give you a canine guidance for your bite, besides the cosmetic looks of your tooth.

There are several ways to straighten teeth--you can do with with braces or invisalign, you can do it with composite bonding or bonded ceramics (veneer or crown). It is best to check with your dentist to see which option is best for you.

Dear patient,

One more option is the Six Month Smiles braces. It is a fascinating system that uses clear brackets and white wire.It can align a front tooth within 3-6 months.Good luck.
There are multiple ways to correct this cosmetically, such as placing composite, a veneer, or a crown on the tooth. But to truly align the teeth correctly with opposing dentition, braces/invisalign/fast braces is the best possible solution to this issue for long term success. There is a reason this tooth is maligned usually due to jaw relationship issues. I would suggest discussing this with and orthodontist. Most orthodontist do free consultation exams and discussing the treatment options for your specific case. This will help you understand why you might need to have braces or if restorative options would be better for you personally.
Braces are not always the best answer. Who wants to be going through braces for 12-18 months when a good Cosmetic Dentist can straighten them in two visits. This is especially true for busy adults. Consult with a good Cosmetic Dentist and ask to see their recent work. You should be able to see work they have done that is similar to your situation. If they are an experienced Cosmetic Dentist they will be happy to show you actual pictures of happy patients.
Braces are just one option probably the best (sight unseen of course). You don't have to make this decision in a vacuum your dentist is the best first stop for this issue. If you don't have ask you best friends who they would suggest. Good luck and take care.
you can pray! when that doesn't work, see an orthodontist. OR ask your dentist if he/she will grind it down and make a crown that suits your desires.

Consult with your dentist to determine what your options may be.
It depends how crooked it is. Other options include a crown to totally cover it, reshape it, and reangle it. Or a veneer to go over the front to resurface it. Cosmetic dentists call these other methods "Instant Orthodontics".
