Toe's injury

Hello.

Today I had an accident on set. A very heavy metal umbrella base fell on my foot. I attached a pick to see what happened,. Its pretty bad. The good news is that I can move my toes so I think are not broken. What do you recommend as a treatment? Thanks a lot for helping us guys. I truly appreciate that .

There's a very good chance that one or more of your toes is broken. I would see a foot and ankle specialist or go to an urgent care and have xrays performed. Some fractures simply require buddy taping the toe to the adjacent digit while other types of fractures could require surgical intervention. In some cases, crush injuries like you sustained can become infected due to the heavy object violating the skin of your nail bed. I would make sure that you have it looked at and do not assume that it is not broken because you can move them. In any event, this type of injury can take some time to recover from as the swelling will likely preclude you from being able to wear closed shoes. I hope you do well.

Get an x-ray and get evaluated by a foot doctor, as soon as possible.

With the swelling and bruising present, you likely did break at least one of the small toe bones. These generally heal very well but I would find an orthopedic surgeon and get some basic xrays taken to assure that the toe alignment is adequate. Ice and buddy taping is the usual treatment provided the bones are not out of place.

There is a lot of swelling and bruising present and thls presentation warrants an X-ray. Ice and anti-inflammatory medication (if you have no allergies or contraindications) can help as well as splinting the toes together to limit excess motion.

don't assume that because you can move them, they aren't broken. That is not the case. Get it x-rayed.

Possible non displaced DX, tape to the next toe to reduce movement and wear a hard sole shoe to minimize flexion of the foot. If it is a FX, it should get better skowly over the next 3 weeks . To be sure get an X-ray

Ice is good for the foot never directly on a toe until circulation is evaluated properly. Just becaue your 28 doesnt mean anything without a good histroy. (ie: smoking, raynauds). Get an xray never know and treatments vary with fractures and dislocations. possibly both. Joint space alignment is very important to keep from getting arthritis in the joints in the future. Soft tissue damage as well as neurological damage can occur causing other issues and of course will be assessed with your visit. See someone A Podiatrist, Orthopedist, Family Doctor will take the time needed for effective treatment.

Well the answer is difficult. Bottom line is ice ice ice baby. If needed get xrays if its just toes then paper tape them together as a buddy splint and wait. Best of luck
