Throat/esophagus concerns.

I am a 24 year old female. I have smoked hookah approximately 4 times a week for the last 5 years of my life. Last Wednesday, I was smoking for several consecutive hours while studying & my mouth and throat started hurting. I haven't smoked since. My mouth stopped hurting altogether, but my throat still feels like something is in it. A few people have said they noticed a change in my voice. My father asked if I was sick because I sound nasally "or something". Eating ice cream caused irritation.

It just has to heal. Pick up some Throat Coat tea at the health food store or supermarket.

First give up the hookah, whether it has nicotine or not. The organic compounds in the flavored water can be just as irritating as tobacco and probably just as likely to create throat and respiratory problems later in life. You need to see an ears, nose and throat specialist for a scope of your throat to access your vocal chords.

This is most likely irritation from the smoke. It will resolve in few more days. Please don't smoke for a couple of weeks and use salt water to gargle and spit. It will resolve.

I was very sad to read about your problem. I agree with Dr Shenoy, you must see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. The heavy amount of smoking you have been doing puts you at increased risk for cancers of the vocal cords, throat and esophagus. Hope you can stop this habit, it is very dangerous to your health.

Stop smoking and give this a little more time. If the issues persist further evaluation of your throat could be needed. It does not sound like a serious problem.
The hookah or e-cigarette can damage your throat in several ways, not the least of which is direct thermal injury. I agree that given your age, you most likely need time to heal your throat. My recommendation is to stop your hookah habit immediately (along with other inhalant habits), and seen an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist to have your upper airway thoroughly evaluated.
Well, you aren't going to like this answer but your smoking like that is crazy and what you are doing to yourself is sad. What are you trying to accomplish with the adderal and the hookah? How long do you think you can challenge your body that way and not have consequences...Whats so wrong with your life at age 24 that you are doing this to yourself. Its unlikely but not impossible that at your age you have done yourself real hard yet ...but any persistant symptoms should be checked out by a doctor who can look at your vocal chords. Listening to classical music is said to help with studying. . I hope you will forgive me for challenging you but its the right thing to do....
The Electronic Cigarette / Hookah negative short-term effects are primarily respiratory effects.

E-Cigs and their liquids contain nicotine - negative effects of nicotine are well known - Do not Smoke it !

The Hookahs' are primarily water vapor and their flavorings are considered safe for consumption - But the effects of inhaling these substances is unknown and since these liquids can potentially contain contaminates your use of these devices can put you at an increased health risk. These devices and substances are largely unregulated by the FDA.

If you are dripping the liquid directly onto the heating element additional multiform toxins can be created and inhaled with increased toxic negative effects.

Your reaction above is a warning to stop using these devices. Your Upper and Lower airway is in Hypersensitivity and Damage mode. You should visit your local ENT for examination and treatment. Stop smoking these devices.

Hooka smoking is irritating to the mucous membranes and can cause changes in the tissues. What is your question?
Hope you stop smoking. YOUR HISTORY WARRANTS PATHOLOGY IN VOICE BOX OR FOOD PIPE. You need to see otolaryngologist for your examination of larynx (voice box) and food pipe. May need CT SCAN of the neck deemed necessary.
