Ovulation time
Ovulation generally occurs 15 days after the first day of bleeding. What I'm seeing here is that you have serious hormone imbalances that are preventing pregnancy, and that if/when you do become pregnant, make miscarriage or just symptoms like morning sickness much more likely. I would wait to get pregnant until you have regular cycles. Did you know that eating flax seeds 2TBSP in the first half of the cycle, which is menses to day 15, and the eating sunflower seeds, raw, from day 15 until menses, can really help regulate the cycle? There's so much you can do to regulate the cycle. THen you will know that you are ovulating on day 15 because you will be regular. I'm sure the docs below will post some good kits, but really we need to work on your lovely body. Your Naturopath, homeopath, or herbalist can help.
I see you are on metformin which is typically used to aid in the normalization of the menstrual cycle in women with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Perhaps you could ask your doctor if you might benefit from a higher dose of metformin or an ovulation induction medication such as clomid or letrozole.
As far as the OTC ovulation kits go there is not one that is superior to an other. Some are easier to read however.
I wish you and your husband luck. Be patient it will likely happen in time.

I would strongly urge you to see an OB/Gyn and get on some type of ovulation induction medication because it sounds like you are not ovulating and that is why your app is not working for you and probably why you have not conceived. In most couples who are having unprotected intercourse for over a year 90% will be pregnant so you should definitely seek professional help. At 26 years old I think you will be successful. Good luck.
Infertility is defined as the inability of a sexually active couple to achieve pregnancy in one year without using contraceptives. If your condition lasts more than a year, than you can be diagnosed with primary infertility. Note, that the couple is considered a unit when evaluating infertility. The woman can be fecund, by infertile because of reasons between the couple. The first step is running a fertility test in your husband. This includes a normal semen analysis and post-coital test for the sperm motility and anitbodies . If he is fertile and if there is not immune conflict between the sperm and cervical mucus, then the next step is checking whether you have STDs. If you are negative for chlamlydia, CMV, gonorrhea, tubal tuberculosis, and other STDs deleterious to fertility, then it must be checked whether or not, you have an ovulation disorder. There are cost-free, self-assessments methods that a woman can perform at home for at least six consecutive menstrual cycles: basal body thermometry and Billings ovulation method (BOM). If those methods reveal that you have monophasic cycle, then you must be seen by the specialist for hysteroscopy, sonography, EEG, and hormonal tests for gonadal steroids and thyroid battery (hormonal screening should be performed on the specific days of the cycle and must be interpreted in the dynamics). If you ovulate, then you must be checked for the tubal and uterine factors (hysterosalpingography, biopsy in the late luteal phase). You must also watch after your weight. Psychologically, as a couple, you both must try not to fixate on this problem. Quite often, long-waited babies are conceived when the couple takes a vacation trip, or when the couple decides to adopt a child (changing the dominant internal stimuli).
A common cause of infertility is underactive thyroid function. Unfortunately, this condition is usually missed by the approach to diagnosis that the medical profession, even endocrinology, is taking these days. If you have had thyroid testing, feel free to send me the results and I'll tell you whether they may indicate hypothyroidism or not. If you have not had testing for thyroid issues, please consult a physician who focuses on T3 as much as on T4 and TSH and who is able to treat the deficiency OPTIMALLY. If your thyroid is low, that is probably also the cause of your overweight situation and other symptoms as well.
You can check your
temperature first thing
in the morning, when
you wake up.
Have a thermometer
on your night-stand
and check your oral
temperature when you
peaked up, before you
get up and write it down.
Usually this temperature
is below 98 and when you
ovulate, it goes up over 98.
For the first three days, you
are fertile. It will stay up over
98 for 12 days and if your
temperature drops, you'll get
a period. If your temperature is
up for more than 14 days and
your period is late, it's time to
do an EPT (early pregnancy test).

Unfortunately, there is no great ovulation device sold over the counter. You state that your cycle is irregular so you may need evaluation and treatment. After a year of trying, it is time for professional evaluation of both you and your husband. It is very likely you will get pregnant, the question is how much time, effort and expense it will take.
You probably should be doing the basal temperature ovulation system daily without skipping any days and then this will give you some more information. If you are not able to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse, time for you to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist and get evaluated more thoroughly. Also, should have your husband's sperm count checked since that could also be the explanation. The doctors with whom you consult should be able to assist in this stage of the evaluation with more detailed testing and review of options. Good luck.
