Questions & Answers Q&A

A. Lisa,
Both Restylane and Juvederm are non-permanent hyaluronic acid fillers. Restylane is formulated in gel microspheres and Juvederm is a smooth textured compound. Both last approximately a year depending on the individual. In our practice we use Restylane in the hollows under the eyes and use Juvederm in lips and nasolabial, and oral commisure lines. We use other products with great effectiveness but for the 'parenthesis', Juvederm is our pick.

A. A deep plane facelift involves surgically lifting the face by cutting deep to one of the muscle layers of the face. This is done by loosening this muscle layer over a relatively large part of the face and then suturing the layer to create tightening and lift.
It differs from techniques that pull only on the skin or which suture the muscle layer without cutting deep to the muscle.
There is no standard "modified" deep plane facelift, so it would be best to ask your surgeon what he/she means when he/she says "modified."
It is normal and routine for a good plastic surgeon to modify a technique to best suit the unique needs of an individual patient.
A. There are different types of anti-aging products. The anti-oxidants have great benefits for almost any adult skin. Because they tend to be expensive, some products may not be cost-effective in certain cases. Other anti-aging products may contain hormones that are not appropriate for a younger individual.
One of the most powerful and cost-effective anti-aging products is sun-block.
Choosing the right cleansing regimen and exfoliation is an important step, folowed by the right moisturizer.
Diet and hydration are key elements, as well.
The best answer is to be evaluated by a skin care professional who can customiize the selection of the most appropriate anti-aging (or other) care for your skin.

Q: What got you into this specific medical field?
A: Plastic Surgery offers a unique opportunity to touch people's lives, often profoundly, by helping with how people see themselves; self image is important and greatly influences happiness. From my early years in training, I dreamed of traveling to underserved countries to provide reconstructive surgery for people who otherwise have no access or ability to obtain surgery that gives them a chance at a normal life and acceptance by their... read more

Medical Mission to Haiti
Helping The Resilient Haitian People

I’ve just returned, exhausted but gratified, from a 12-day medical mission trip to Haiti. Whatever you’ve been seeing on the nightly news about the Haitian disaster, I want to tell you it’s a fraction of the real suffering going on in that tiny country.

Being there in the stench and the chaos, seeing people who’d lost everything, amputating the limbs of small children and uncomplaining adults, I saw a level of anguish none of my... read more

Eye | Plastic Surgeon | Paul Zwiebel | Littleton CO

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, consists of the removal or repositioning of baggy or droopy skin or fat around the upper or lower eyelid. The procedure is primarily used as a cosmetic procedure to fix the sagging and puffing of skin around the eyes, which is often caused by aging. Although mostly used as a cosmetic procedure, there are cases where this type of procedure is not elective.
