Knee pain

I have played basketball for over 15 years and I have never had any knee injuries that were too bad. This past season towards the end, I started getting knee pain behind my knee and it moved to the lower side of my knee. Now it hurts all the time and I am in severe pain when I try to straighten my leg out. What is wrong with my knee?

You most likely based on your story, have a degenerative posterior horn medial meniscus tear with a pair of meniscal cyst or Baker cyst giving you the intermittent fullness in prominence out the back of your knee with pain. You should be seen by an orthopedic surgeon to fully examine your knee and perhaps obtain some advanced imaging to include weight-bearing x-rays and possibly an MRI
