There is no protocol per say, if colostomy is permanent this is more problematic because repair and moving are your only options once It "must" be taken are of. If temporary reversal will be your choice. Initial measures must involve weight loss, stop smoking ( both reduce tissue strength) reinforcement with truss made for stoma, and avoiding stress on the site which makes it larger, cough etc.
