  • "Excellent experience with all aspects of my treatment. Dr. Brettin worked seamlessly with my oral surgeon, Dr. MacMenamin, to align my teeth prior to surgery. Now my smile and my teeth look fantastic and... mostly, I am sleeping soundly and deeply with no apnea. I felt confident that I was well taken care of throughout the treatment process with full disclosure and discussion of the procedures. Thank you, Dr. Brettin and the entire staff at Sletten and Brettin Orthodontics."

About Dr. Dan Sletten

Dr. Sletten is a third generation specialist in orthodontics. The Sletten family has been providing orthodontic care to the Midwest for over 60 years! He graduated Salutatorian of the University of Minnesota Dental Class of 1999 and earned both his Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics from the University of Iowa. His research has been published in the American Journal of Orthodontics, and he is able to share his expertise as a part-time faculty member of the University of Minnesota Department of Orthodontics and the Cleft Lip and Palate Team at Children’s Hospital.

He completed the two year Advanced Education in Orthodontics (AEO) program which is a degree only a small number of orthodontists in the country obtain. It focuses on ideal facial esthetics and more complex orthodontic issues such as TMJ disorders and jaw surgery. He also studies with the Roth Williams International Society of Orthodontists (RWISO) and FACE which is a collection of the best orthodontists from around the world. Dr. Sletten believes that a world class education is the only way to create “World Class Smiles”.

Dr. Sletten and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Stillwater and are proud parents of three children: Jacob, Anders and Macallan. Dr. Sletten enjoys spending time with his family and doing anything outdoors with his boys and their dog, Steve. Jennifer is a Registered Dietitian and does nutrition consulting and lecturing statewide.

About Dr. Bryan Brettin

I believe being an Orthodontist is the second best job in the world -- right behind being a dad to my two beautiful children, Olivia and Brady. My amazing wife, Molly, is also in the tooth business, practicing as a dental hygienist. We are proud to raise our family, including our beloved Schnauzer, Benny, in the wonderful city of Hudson. I can’t imagine any better place to plant roots and raise a family! The small-town feel and values of Hudson remind me of my own birthplace, Granite Falls – a small river town in Western Minnesota.

I didn't always know that I wanted to be an Orthodontist, but I don't think I could have picked a better career. Confucius once said, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." I couldn’t agree more. Being an Orthodontist and having the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s health and self-image by creating a beautiful smile is not only incredibly rewarding, it is also a lot of fun!

My education to become an Orthodontist has taken me many places, beginning at Moorhead State University where I pursued degrees in Chemistry and Biology. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry where I was fortunate to graduate with Honors and was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society. I was incredibly blessed to receive my Specialty Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa – the birthplace of Orthodontics and one of the most prestigious programs in the World. During my time at Iowa, I was involved in researching the use of mini-implants in orthodontics and my research has been accepted for publication in the American Journal of Orthodontics. Like Dr. Sletten, I have also completed the Advanced Education in Orthodontics (AEO)/Roth-Wiliams program which only a small number of Orthodontists go on to complete. I am also proud to contribute my time to the St. Paul Children’s Hospital Cleft Lip and Palate Team.

In my spare time, I enjoy time with family and friends, water sports, hunting & fishing, listening to music - especially Tom Petty, and grilling on my Big Green Egg.

1) conventional bridge - places crowns on the teeth on either side of #7 to support a fake tooth to replace #7. It is 1 piece that looks like 3 teeth. Cost is probably similar to a single implant
2) bonded/Maryland bridge - fake tooth #7 is supported by bonding extensions to the back of the adjacent teeth. Can only be placed if there is adequate space and longevity is questionable in some cases.
3) removable appliance such as a flipper or partial denture

An implant is often the most preferable option. It will likely look better and although the upfront cost may be higher, it typically is cheaper in the long run due to its permanence and longevity.
