I am sorry to hear that you are in such pain. You are wise to take measures to do something about this infection as soon as possible. You do not say in which region you live so it is hard to advise you on who to see. If you are in the East Bay, I am available on an emergency basis to see you, and will give an assessment without cost if you are financially unable to pay. If you are out of this area, and in a city with a dental school, you should see if you can be seen as an emergency basis. Their fees are really nominal. Also, county hospitals often have a dentist on hand that can treat emergencies. It is not likely that doctors would provide you with many recommendations for self treatment. It would not be in your best interest to do so. Please take care of your tooth as soon as you can. It can get worse, and become a very serious condition. All the best.
