Most likely the nerve of the tooth got infected. It could be related to the crown work or just a coincidence that the nerve of the tooth reacted after the crown was placed. In any case, most likely the tooth needs nerve treatment (i.e. root canal), which sounds bad but its really not. I would recommend you having the treatment done by a root canal specialist. Good luck.
