"Everyone was every helpful and friendly, I would recommend Dr Kao"
For 2 years now I have suffered from loose stools/diarrhea regularly. This has become worse including vomiting and passing blood and mucus from my rectum. I have lost 14lbs in the past 2 months and have frequent mouth ulcers, fatigue, pallor and am losing hair. Tests have shown: -Metabolic alkalosis -High fecal calprotectin 450ug/g -Normal colonoscopy and upper endoscopy, just one inflammatory polyp Now diagnosed with IBS; put on a very low fibre diet. I'm worried it's something more?
Agree wtih Dr. Plumser. The symptoms and labs may suggest the presence of inflammatory bowel disease. Again, when was your last colonoscopy. If it has been >3 years, then you have have a repeat exam and make sure the terminal ileum is examined. If normal, then you may want to have some type of imaging done (CT or MR enterography) which looks at that small intestine since Crohn's disease may only involve the small intestine. You may also have concurrent IBS but with IBS alone, you shouldnt have an elevated fecal calprotectin. Make sure to follow up with your gastroenterologist. If he/she tells you everything is due to IBS, then get a 2nd opinion.
