I would agree with your dentist's thorough evaluation and opinion. Although clearly symptomatic, it may not necessarily be ready for root canal therapy just yet. I would not rule that out, though, as a future possibility. Nerve tissue may slowly die over time. Symptoms and signs then will become more prevalent and not associated with stimuli,, but rather will become spontaneous.
Maintain a non-shocking diet and monitor the tooth regularly. You and your dentist will know when it becomes time to consider the endodontic therapy ( root canal treatment ).
