In treating neuropathic pain, it is important to diagnose the type of neuropathy, since this may be treatable. For neuropathic pain meds, gabapentin is good, and can be used in doses up to 900-1200 mg three times a day. Elavil or trileptal are other options. Sometimes anesthetic patches, creams or capsaicin can be helpful.
