My 17 month old son's eyes are matting up with a white snot like substance. It seems to be different than the pink eye I have seen in my other kids. The lids matted shut, but the substance never hardened. Also the eyeball itself is not red like with pinkeye.

Eye doctors are able to do more extensive testing and have greater understanding of eye diseases than your
pediatrician. However, most pediatricians and FP's should be able to assess this condition without seeking further specialized care. At minimum, I would recommend seeing your primary care provider immediately.
