If you cannot get answer directly from oral surgeon ask him to suggest who he/she thinks should answer for you. You could also get a second opinion from another oral surgeon who has your complete medical history. There is no reason not to have this question or any other reasonable question answered before the procedure. I find it's generally better to have all questions answered before to avoid problems
