Breast Cancer

I have been tested and have one mass which is stage 1 cancer. They found another smaller mass which I don't know what stage but it is the same cancer as the first mass found. Originally the doctor was going to do a lumpectomy and then radiation. Now because I have two locations he recommends the norm which is mastectomy. However he said he would do two lumpectomies as long as I know there is a greater chance, 15%, of the cancer coming back. I am in a quandary as to which to go with.

I would do a breast MRI to see if these are the two only areas of concern. If you cancer is ER/PR positive I would be comfortable to do a lumpectomy of two tumors as the anti-hormone therapy with an aromatase inhibitor will reduce recurrence substantially. At your age I would recommend a lumpectomy as the surgery is easier to handle, also should there be local recurrence, then a mastectomy could be done.
