Q: What got you into this specific medical field?
A: It was a career change for me. Once I discovered how my passion for helping people could be accomplished in the health care field, I was drawn to chiropractic. It is natural and non-invasive. We don't ever worry about negative side-effects (which are so common with traditional medical treatments and medications). Chiropractic is NOT medicine, nor is it a part of the medical profession. We do not use any drugs or surgery or other invasive therapies. The amazing anatomy & physiology of the human body gives Upper Cervical Specific Doctors a unique ability to help people in this healing profession...not that doctors heal people, but UC Chiropractors have been trained to specifically correct problems in the spine and nerve system so the body can heal itself naturally. I've fully embraced a more holistic, natural, simple approach to life and patient care because it works for any age and is safe for any condition. A major driving force for me was choosing this field came after seeing an amazing change in my own family. My wife and son both had serious dysfunctions (anxiety/panic attacks for her and neurological tics for him). We'd tried many things, but nothing was effective or lasting until we found upper cervical care. They both appreciated the gentle system of adjustments in the upper cervical techniques. We adjust the spine by hand in our protocol, but there is NEVER any need to manipulate, crack, pop, or twist the head or neck or back. By tapping into our God-given internal healing ability, we saw amazing results and healing for both my wife and my son. The Philosophy, Science, and Art of this specific work is very demanding, but it is well worth the effort. I know this for certain because we continue seeing remarkable improvements every day with our practice members using these same precise methods!!

Q: What landed you in your city, and what is it that you like about the neighborhood?
A: We were drawn to NW Arkansas to fill the need... no other provider in the entire region was delivering upper cervical specific spinal care. The neighborhood is fantastic for several reasons: Bentonville's city Parks and Trail system is literally across the street from our office. We are near the "bark park" for dog lovers, paved trails for cycling or walking, and also the intricate network of mountain bike trails for those who love getting off road to explore the beauty of the Ozarks. We also have easy access to I-540 and Hwy 71 off Exit 93, so people from all over SW Missouri, NE Oklahoma, and of course Northwest Arkansas have no problem finding our office. Our location off N. Walton Blvd puts us just a few minutes from the Walmart Home Office, downtown Bentonville, and Crystal Bridges Museum.

Q: Where did you receive your undergraduate and professional degrees, and did you participate in any residencies?
A: Doctor of Chiropractic -- Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA.
My internship / preceptor position was completed under Dr. Tom Forest of Pleasanton, CA. He has been practicing upper cervical specific chiropractic since 1974.
M.A. in Religious (Christian) Education -- Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX.
B.A. in Music with piano emphasis -- California Baptist University, Riverside, CA.

Q: What year did you begin practicing?
A: 2010

Q: Do you belong to any professional associations?
A: William Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic Society (Blair) http://blairchiropractic.com/
International Federation of Chiropractors & Organizations (IFCO) http://ifcochiro.org/

Q: What investments in your practice equipment and facilities have you made?
A: We equipped the facility with the Tytron C-5000 paraspinal thermography instruments. These top of the line digital scanners gives precise measurements (heat readings) that track and chart the function of your nerve system. http://www.titronics.com/ We also installed specialized x-ray equipment to deliver precision films of the cervical spine in 3-D stereo. These views literally take out any guesswork, giving the doctor an exact picture of the alignment and condition of each joint and disc in the neck, and only use a minimal exposure time so it is safe for any age (no full spine views are necessary, no chest films, and no CAT scans or CTs). Our practice is the only location in all of NW Arkansas taking this detailed set of three dimensional x-rays. In fact, only two other clinics in the entire state are doing this precision work: Dr. Crabtree in Searcy, and Dr. York in Morrilton.

Q: What procedures do you feel your practice excels in above others?
A: Upper Cervical Specific from a vitalistic & scientific perspective. Fewer adjustments needed because they last and hold alignment much longer. This is pure chiropractic WITHOUT any popping, twisting, cracking, or traction on your spine!! In our holistic approach to health we look first at restoring a clear neurological connection between your brain & body, particularly in the brain stem at the base of the skull in the upper neck region.

Q: What are the most challenging parts of your everyday practice?
A: Explaining how we are different. This is fun (yet often a huge challenge), especially when people have been told there is no hope, no alternative, no solutions, and they'll just need to live with their pain and dysfunction! I'm not sure which type of case is more challenging for us to explain the uniqueness of upper cervical wellness care:
1. someone who has already "tried everything else" and realized the drugs, surgeries, and therapies haven't helped
2. someone who has been to other Chiropractors, even for a long time, and never seen the results they expected, so they are skeptical about what we do
3. someone who has waited so long and been through so many destructive procedures and surgeries that they are a mess, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Nobody is beyond hope, but some people have been in a bad place for such a long time that they will need a very long time to heal and restore.

Q: What are the best moments that make it worthwhile?
A: Seeing sick people get well. Hearing moms and dads rejoice when their children are finally healthy again. Experiencing the life-changing return of hope & better health.

A: By Appointment Only.

Q: What HMO or PPO providers are you in network with? Do you offer financing?
A: We accept cash, check, health savings accounts, debit cards, most major credit cards, and financing through CareCredit. Most medical insurance policies are not designed to help you be more healthy. It is really "sick care" not health care. In fact, they rarely understand or even cover much chiropractic care. If you happen to own a health insurance policy which includes chiropractic coverage, we are happy to give receipts with proper coding so you are able to be reimbursed for your expenses in our clinic.
