I am having pain and impaired sensation in my right foot, which has a non union of the 5th metatarsal. After 5 surgeries (last 3 years ago) I have a plate and screws. It is generally pain free until recently. After minor surgery on left foot, I developed osteomyelitis last year which was treated. Could the infection stay in my body and affected the other foot? Or could I have damaged the hardware in my right foot? Its gotten much worse the last 3 days.

In a patient with history of osteomyelitis it should be assumed that there is dormant infection there that has returned. It's probably unlikely that it would affect the other foot. Your hardware could be affected. Please see your surgeon who can evaluate you for treatment.
