Q & A with Dr. Greg Carroll

Posted on 06-20-2012

Q: What got you into this specific medical field?
A: Since I was a young child, I wanted to help people to experience better health. I was very good with my hands and so Dentistry was a perfect fit for me.

Q: What landed you in your city, and what is it that you like about the neighborhood?
A: I went to dental school in the Houston Medical Center. My senior year of school, I moved out to the Sugar Land/Missouri City area. I quickly fell in love with the amenities of the area and the family-friendly atmosphere.

Q: Where did you receive your undergraduate and professional degrees, and did you participate in any residencies?
A: I went to the University of Texas in Austin and was accepted to Dental School after three years, before receiving an undergraduate degree. I received my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston.

Q: Do you belong to any professional associations?
A: American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Greater Houston Dental Society, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

Q: What year did you begin practicing?
A: 1981

Q: What investments in your practice equipment and facilities have you made?
A: We use digital radiography, which reduces the radiation exposure to our patients by 70% during X-rays. We also use a laser to detect tooth cavities without radiation before large amounts of tooth structure are decayed. We have a very calming atmosphere in the office, with the treatment rooms facing a lake. We have Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) that creates a soothing means of escape and relaxation during the dental procedures. We treat Periodontal (gum) diseases with the latest in Ultrasonic instruments for comfort and ease.

Q: What procedures do you feel your practice excels in above others?
A: We provide reliable, gentle care for each of our patients—treating them as we would want to be treated. We perform oral cancer screening at all exam visits. We screen for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and provide successful treatment with an oral appliance that has an outstanding track record. We perform Botox injections for treatment of TMJ/TMD and migraine headaches with great success. Dr. Carroll is certified as a Premier Provider in Invisalign (invisible braces), certified in the placing of Lumineers (veneers that require no shots or drilling). We use only tooth-colored resin fillings—no toxic, silver Amalgams.

Q: What are your office hours?
A: Monday 7:30 – 5:00
Tuesday 7:30 – 7:00
Thursday 7:30 – 7:00
Friday 7:30 – 2:00

Q: Do you accept any government programs or discount cards?
A: No

Q: What are the best moments that make it worthwhile?
A: I and my team get great satisfaction from:
1) Helping a patient who is unaware of a serious health condition they have that is affecting their quality of life... (whether it be Obstructive Sleep Apnea that is preventing them from breathing adequately while they sleep OR Periodontal Disease that is affecting their Heart Health OR Tooth Decay that is damaging their tooth structure below the gums).
2) Providing immediate relief to a patient who is in extreme pain, so they can return to their family and their normal lifestyle... (whether it be excruciating pain from TMJ being relieved by Botox injections, Night Guards or intra-oral massages OR an abscessed tooth that is cured with a quick, pain-free root canal procedure OR gum-line tooth sensitivity from recessed gums being alleviated in a few short moments with resin bonding).
3) Helping a patient relax and overcome the scarred memories they have of their past dental experiences, and be able to have their dental needs cared for without tears and panic attacks.
