Strep throat and/or viral pharyngitis can cause swelling and obstruction of the Eustachian tube. Fluid that accumulates in the middle ear (behind the ear drum) can create a "plugged" sensation. Ear pain can be from an acutely infected ear or referred from the throat. If you have had a significant increase in pain from the time of the strep throat diagnosis (and presumed antibiotic start date) it may be worth a visit for someone to look in your ear. An increase in pain raises the possibility that you are not responding to the antibiotics. Alternatively, this could just be fluid in the ear that may take a while to resolve.
