OB-GYN Associates Office Information

Hello, if you had an abortion a year ago and your periods are now normal you can assume your abortion was complete. You would have had problems with cramping and bleeding otherwise. There are a few other ways to confirm a complete abortion; having a pregnancy hormone level drawn and it be zero will confirm a complete abortion. The other option is an ultrasound. If you have had problems with bleeding and cramping this would be an option. If you see your ob/gyn they can do this for you. A hysterosonogram is even more accurate; we insert a small catheter with saline in your uterus as we do the ultrasound. It will confirm the lining is smooth. I would say this far out without any issues, you can assume the abortion was complete. Complications from a surgical abortion may include Asherman's syndrome where there is scarring within your uterus. A sonohysterogram or hysteroscopy (looking with a camera in your uterus) can rule this out. So if your periods are regular and have not changed you should be fine.
