Can getting cavities filled trigger previous TMJ symptoms and what's the best way to support TMJ and clenching from stress?

Yes. Getting new fillings can make existing TMJ condition worse. For one being open wide for prolonged period of time can worsen the condition . Two, if occlusion us not properly adjusted it will make u our jaw sway into a wrong position making the joint more uncomfortable. Having a proper appliance such as a night guard can help. Relaxation of the muscles of mastication with warm compresses special exercises, massage or muscle relaxants can help to eliminate pain and discomfort. Adjusting occlusion properly will help. Anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen can help.
