Your pain may be independent of the disc issues, or not. You need a good differential diagnosis, for instance the pain could originate from the kidney. Get checked and know. Muscle relaxers will not change the herniated discs though if muscle spasm is exacerbating the disc protrusion it may relieve it a bit. In my opinion, you need to be seen and treated by an expert chiropractor or orthopedist who specializes in the spine. From there you can get the direction needed, my guess would be some manual therapy, core training/breathing exercises, nutritional support of muscle and disc.
