I would have to agree with my esteemed colleague. Your symptoms sound very much like allergic rhinitis to me provided that the nasal discharge is clear and thin rather than thick and green. Thick and green mucus makes me concerned for an infective sinusitis--so does body aches, feeling overall crummy, and fever. If you don't have these latter symptoms, then your complaint is likely allergic in nature. A doctor can confirm that just by looking up your nose with an otoscope. If the mucosa or lining of the inside of your nose is pale in color and not pink like it should be, then your problem is allergies.

The blocked nare or nostril on the left is the reason for your facial and head discomfort. This is very common in allergic rhinitis and is easily treatable. As my other esteemed colleague had suggested, a nasal toilet or irrigation of your nostril with salt water is a nice way to clear things out. Follow with a steroid based nasal spray, like Flonase or Nasacort AQ. For the pain, try an anti-inflammatory medication like an Advil or Motrin. And for any other allergy symptoms as well as prevention of further nasal congestion and discomfort, try an allergy medication like Zyrtec or Claritin.

If you still notice congestion, a facial x-ray or CT scan of your sinuses may be needed to investigate the possibility of nasal polyps, severe tissue swelling, or, rarely, masses that could be cancerous. Check with your doctor.

Hope this helped.

Be Well.

It sure sounds like you have allergic rhinitis, but only if your job or hone envirinment exposes you to hay, can it be called hay fever. It also has to be seasonal, especially during Spring. Your first move to control your nasal stuffiness will be to avoid hay or any other identify allergies that trigger it. The are many options for nasal membrane stabilizers or nasal decongestants. Have your healthcare provider recommend the best options for you. You can also go for Allegra D and others advertised on TV. I wish you the best possible solution to your problem. The pressure in your sinus is causing the pain, but it has a reversible component that is why you get periods of relief. You may have allergies contributing to the blockage which would account for the variability. A sinus infection would be unlikely to give you relief for days or weeks, Flonase nasal spray has gone over the counter so you might want to try this to open your nasal passages. A sinus x ray will confirm if there is a chronic infection that still may be bothering you. See your family doctor about getting this treated so that this cycle stops and you get validation of how to stop it for good.

It may be sinusitis.

It may be chronic

If you have underlying nasal allergy you may try claritin or allegra.

And may have to do saline nasal irrigation at least two times a day.

If not better then consult ENT.

This sound like you may have a sinus infection due to the facial pain and pressure.

Try irrigating with a saline spray, nasal steroid (ie. OTC flonase or nasacort), taking some mucinex over the counter ( as long as you have no contraindications to this med) and seeing if you can get some relief. If no help in the next few days, or you develop more symptoms/fever, see your PCP
