Pink eye?

I'm concerned that I have pink eye. My eyelid is swollen and it hurts when I blink but the white of my eye is not pink or red. When I woke up this morning my eye was stuck shut and took a minute for me to get open. I'm wondering if it's necessary for me to see a doctor. I would rather not but I'm supposed to babysit for someone else's children tomorrow afternoon and would like to not have to cancel if at all possible. Thanks.

Even in the absence of redness of the red part of the eye, sticking of the lashes together in the morning indicates dried exudative inflammation and merits a visit to the eye doctor to rule out bacterial or viral infection of the eye.
Maybe blepharitis. See an eye doctor.

If it is limited to just your eyelid, it is most likely an infected gland (stye). If the white of your eye is not red, you are probably not contagious. If your entire eyelid is swollen, it could be a more serious condition called preseptal cellulitis. Only way to know for sure is to have an eye doctor look at it.
Hello, an eye with active discharge and increasing redness does raise the suspicion of infectious conjunctivitis especially when there is a history of recent cold/sinus episode or sick contact. If this were true, it's often self-limited but you are advised to not become yourself a "sick contact" to other people. Regardless, It's best for you to seek medical care for specific diagnosis and treatment.

If you have pink eye you may need treatment and you may be contagious. You should get checked and treated if necessary. If contagious, you should not be babysitting.

Good Day,

when eye health is in question, I strongly advise to have it professionally diagnosed. Many eye conditions, if not treated will worsen and become sight threatening. Better to be safe than sorry. If we can help, please call 702 966 2020 so we can get you in asap. Warm Regard, Dr.Y
Pink eye or conjunctivitis can be the result of several types of infections virus, bacterial, or allergic, only your eye doctor can determine which is the cause. Improper treatment can lead to permanent change in vision. It is highly recommended that you seek the proper medical treatment for you condition and the sooner the better.

You should see an eye doctor, there are lots of different types of infections and if you are babysitting you want to make sure you are not contagious.

You have a situation best handled in the office. Your eye is clearly not well and there are a number of possibilities depending on what is discovered when you are seen. Until you have this evaluated it is not a good idea to continue working your babysitting job since you may have a contagious condition. Please call your eye doctor and explain the situation; you should be scheduled in right away.

You probably don't have conjunctivitis since your eye is not red. You are probably not contagious, but it would be best to make sure by seeing an eye doctor. This will also reassure the child'smother. You may have a corneal abrasion,a scratch on the clear central part of the eye or the start of a stye. This will need treatment by an eye doctor to prevent it from becoming a recurring problem. It is always best to see an eye doctor( an optometrist or ophthalmologist) for eye problems rather than go to a walkin clinic or emergency room!
